Yes. 2001 650SE, bought with 11k miles on it, put around 3k myself. Riding home from work, about 30 degrees F outside, noticed rear wheel completely slipping on startup from stoplights. Got home and saw it pouring oil, and the chain, wheel, and sprocket were covered in warm oil."

Yep, that's what usually happens. :howdy:

Just riding along like always, glad that you had voted on this thread with a big NO, then suddenly something is wrong. :OMG:

If you are fortunate you notice before the oil is all gone and your engine seizes, or your rear tire slides out in a fast corner and you find yourself sliding into the oncoming traffic lane.

This and the NSU screws are really necessary fixes before, not after... :Horse

Not blown out but is seeping oil.. Put in a few new seals and they go back to seeping oil.. Going to try buffing the shaft where seal sits and covering splines with packing tape as I slide seal on.. Added the seal retainer when leak first started .. I hate when she marks her spots like some other brands of Cycles..

My bike is a 2013 and if I read it right it should already have a countershaft seal retainer factory installed, correct? Thanks

remove the sprocket cover and make sure with your own eyes - 60'' seconds to remove 3 screws and about the same time to put back on

My 2013 had no retainer, so I added one.

And on a side note, changing front sprockets yesterday I noticed the seal was slightly wet around the countershaft.

Here is a pic of my 2013. I thought they started to add them that year? not sure as I am a new owner, but I'm guessing I need one?

They did 'start' adding them then. Early 2013 did not get them, late 2013 did.

and before I order one, mine does not have one - right? dumb question but... :fool:

I recently made an uninformed bold mechanical decision on my XR250 that completely blew up in my face, so I'm really crossing my T's and dotting my I's for a while

Yes that photo you displayed shows you need one. If you had one it would be covering the black seal.
