Bike was running fine today and all of a sudden it acted like it ran out of gas. Switched to reserve and it cleared up, but I noticed it shouldn't be enough miles to need reserve. So, switched back to the on position , and rode the rest of the way home ( 10 miles ) problem free. (Stock petcock )
Headed out to the store and it did it again. Pulled over to side of road, and it would idle fine, but die at anything above about 1/8 throttle. Then all of a sudden started running fine again.
On the way back from the store it did it again about a mile from home. Wouldn't clear it up this time, so I had to limp it in first gear to get home. While limping along I tried all 3 petcock positions, and loosening the gas cap. Nothing changed.
Get home
Drain carb bowl, gas looks good coming out. No water, no trash.
Turn petcock to prime, good fuel flow runs out bowl drain.
Remove carb. Take bowl off.
Everything looks nice and clean, except for a black spot covering the main jet hole. Picked it off and it is a dead spider. Fuel soaked, but very obviously a spider.
Being there is no way it could have got through the fuel filters, it had to have went up the carb vent hose to have got where it was.
Put everything back together, and bike runs fine now.

I know this was a rare thing, but I may just put a little filter of some type on the carb bowl vent hose.
Just because.

SW Ohio Trails. The DR is a lot to handle on these trails. Luckily the bike has upgrades suspension. I was a bit sore but I'm not a big guy.

Looks like a great ride.

In the last week or so I've wired in the switched auxiliary power plug from ProCycle to power my GPS and charge my phone, re-wrapped and loomed the ignition wiring harness, installed a new LED plate light from ProCycle and assembled a nice tool kit to keep in my tailbag.

Fixed the dry bearing in the starter while it rained all weekend.

I installed a new Sargent seat last night.

Image

I purchased the bike in July of this year. It came generously farkled but had the stock seat with one of those gel ATV seat covers. I've used it for a couple of trail rides and my daily commute, so I hadn't spent a long time in the seat in one stretch. Last Saturday, I went for a 3-hour ride and could hardly walk when I got back home. I spent a long time on Monday looking through the posts on this site to read seat reviews and ordered the Sargent seat from ProCycle on Monday evening. It arrived yesterday and I installed it last night.

Even on my short commute this morning, I could already tell a difference. The wider platform is much more comfortable. I would like to take it for a longer ride this weekend, but I need to shorten my to-do list for home.

Thanks to all who posted seat reviews on this site. They were a big help!
