New Tires
Dunlop D606 rear 130/90x17 on spare rear wheel.
Dunlop D606 front 90/90x21

Improved TM40 Pumper Carb Jetting
Much more responsive in 1/4-3/4 throttle range. Just under 1/4 throttle cruises at 85 mph indicated.
Still too rich, but fuel consumption is up from 32 mpg to 42 mpg. I was at 52 mpg with stock carb.

  • #145 Main N100.64
  • #22.5 Pilot VM28/486
  • #1 Needle Clip with spacer on top of clip (no surging, need to go leaner still)
  • ??? Jet Needle 9DJY Series (couldn't read the markings due to old eyes)
  • 1.25 Fuel Screw turns out (probably needs to be closed a little more, but it's hard to adjust when the engine is hot and burns my hand)

I will "borrow" some better eyes, read the needle markings, and try 1 step leaner.

I started with #150 main as sent from PC, went to #145 main, kept dropping the needle down to where you are now. I ended up at #140 main with clip in the 2nd notch, no spacer. Seems to be real happy there. Getting 47-48 MPG which is where I was stock.

Thanks for your experience!. Since I have he 790 kit, I may need to go even leaner... I'll try the #140 next since I have that in hand.

I have a feeling it'll be happier with a leaner (larger) diameter needle when its dialed in.
I think the base needle is probably 9DJY04
I'll test with the next leaner needle 9DJY03

Installed a JNS case saver/sprocket cover and It's a really nice piece of equipment. Hope to get the JNS oil cooler guard soon.

Did something with my DR and not to --- Finally rode the Trans Mass Trail - weather was great - was able to take two days to enjoy the scenery.
Great mix of easy trails and scenic paved roads.
