Hey guys. Does anyone have any summer riding trips planned for 2011? I am planning to just do some local day trips and hopefully an overnighter out to the coast with one my my KLR buddies from Alberta. Anyone else thinking about making any trips? Also, I put it out there that if anyone is travelling on Hwy 16 towards Alaska to drop me a line. We can hook up for coffee / beers. Even if you have time, I can tour you around the area and provide info if you require some servicing, not like you would as we are all on DR's

I live in north central Arkansas. I am planning a trip to southern Idaho this summer to see friends. Nothing in concrete yet.

A group of friends and I usually do a trip every summer. I'm pushing for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum ( http://www.nasm.si.edu/) for this year. Easy enough to do on a long weekend and lots of twisty, turny roads along the way. I'm also working on plans to ride from Victoria (BC) back to Ontario. My wife has never seen Montana and Wyoming and I, personally, think its a must. I have a brother in Victoria so, with time a real factor, we'd ship the bike to Victoria, fly out, spend a few days with my Bro and his wife and kids and then ride home. I work for myself and spend a fair bit of time travelling to see clients. Most of the travel is based around the Great Lakes and I'll take the V-Strom any time the roads are clear of snow and ice. Some pretty spectacular roads to be found in Pennsylvania and South-east Ohio. Since the V-Strom is the only bike I have, so far, and it is well set up for long hauls, its the beast of choice.

One of my dream rides is from up here to Rupert, take the ferry down to the Island, tour all over the island, then over to the mainland and up the ski to sky hwy and then all dirt home. Nothing sounds like fun to me like 4 days of dirt If you do make the Ont - BC trip, please post it up. I would love to read that Ride Report.

My wife is an O.R. nurse and she stands all day long. Turns out she can't sit on the bike for more than 45 minutes at a stretch. With that in mind, I plotted the "straightest" route. We had 2 rules for the trip. 1.) Always try and ride secondary roads 2.) No chain restaurants. Mom & Pop joints all the way. Good memories.

That would be good times. I like your rule about Mom and Pop restaurants. Those are my favourite as well. I am trying to get my wife ridings as well, but she has a bad back and she is a little leery about any amount of time in the saddle.

That was a serious trip there, Heavy. Looks like fun! I am right there with you on the back roads! Why take the easy way when you can take the fun way. Restaurants, I like the Mom & Pop's idea. I think that I will suggest that to my riding buddies for our day trips next summer. The one guy is always looking for Subways. That is pretty low on my list preferred eateries.

Took off by myself and was gone for just under a month. Opportunity of a lifetime. One of my favorite pics came from that trip....Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah....

So did you test the top end of the Strom while on the flats?
