The folding in straight lines without a straight-edge or other means with which to guide to fold gets me... that's talent.

Just make good lines with a pencil and bend it slow from top to bottom and it's a piece of cake. A straight edge would probably make it difficult to crease the top more than the bottom. The key is the right plastic. To thin and soft and it will probably flop around to much. To thick and it is hard to crease without splitting. I look for plastic the same thickness as the number plate.
The real talent is the guy that made his out of plexiglass without any discoloration in the lines and it didn't split or crack. I still don't know how he pulled that off, but it looks awesome!

Lexan and other polycarbonate plastics can be bent with a sheet metal brake.
Won't crack or discolor and are pretty near unbreakable.
Also comes in various tints I believe.

That is what I am guessing the clear one is.
Plexi will break unless heated to bend and will shatter if a rock hits it.

Don't use plexi... :OMG:

Now that's good to know right there. Now I've got to make a Lexan shield just to see if I can. Fairly expensive though. Do I need to heat it or will it get brittle?

It's interesting that you took the plastic off the narrow side of the trashcan. I would have thought the wider face would be better...but maybe the bends in the trashcan are elastic and once you cut it, it flattens back out.

Actually, I always use both sides of the can, but I've found the curved side actually gives the sides a slight inward curve that I kinda like. I think it adds a little character so it's not so squared off looking. I've also kinda arched the top on a couple with the curved sides looking for a ktm 640 adventure type look, but it didn't look as good on the bike as I thought. I've seen one without the center line and a rolled top edge that I thought would look pretty good with the curved side piece, but I never got around to trying it. As you can tell, I've up a few cans. At least four white ones and a black one. I've heard there are blue recycling bins that match the Suzuki blue perfectly. That might be cool to make for the DRZ if I could ever find one.
