I'd like to track tire longevity of what we use on our DR's. I'll try to update the data as you all submit it. I'll go first.

What tires have you used and how long did they last?

Front tires:

AMS Sand Snake-

Anakee- Avg. 8000+ miles, sample of 1.

Distanzia- Avg. 8300 miles, sample of 2.

D606-

GP-1- Avg. 4500 miles, sample of 1.

K760-

K761-

MT21-

MT90- Avg. 5000 miles, sample of 1.

Shinko 705- Avg. 6000+ miles- sample of 1.

TKC80- Avg. 6000 miles, sample of 1.

TW41- Avg. 7000 miles, sample of 1.

Rear tires:

Anakee- Avg. 7500 miles, sample of 1.

Distanzia- Avg. 7500 miles, sample of 2.

D606-

GP-1- Avg. 3500 miles, sample of 1.

K760-

K761- Avg. 7500+ miles, sample of 2. *Longevity may be added by grooving.

MT21-

MT90- Avg. 3750 miles, sample of 2.

Shinko 705- Avg. 6000 miles, sample of 1.

TKC80- Avg. 4500 miles, sample of 1.

TW42- Avg. 3000 miles, sample of 2.

Well, a tire in Florida and a tire used in western NC will not compare at all etc, etc...

I got 4500 out of a rear TKC-80 in FL riding around Ocala NF. I would never get that riding up in Robbinsville NC.... The front can go 6K easy if I keep it around 25 psi.

With that said, the longest lasting tire I've ran front or rear is the Shinko 705's. Rears will go 5,500 to 6,000 miles mostly in northern AL. Fronts last longer than I'm willing to keep them... I usually go to a knobby or go on a trip that requires fresh rubber before I see over 6K on a 705 front. The Anakee was the second best.

Fronts always go 6K or more, mild ones go much longer. I pulled my front Anakee at 8K, I was ready for something new. It had lots of tread left, no cupping. It probably would have gone 12K. It was too mild for me though, never put it back on.

People and riding styles vary greatly, I run my rear tires till they are almost smooth unless I have a trip coming up. I change the fronts close to the wear bars. On trips up the BRP I've seen tires die quickly due to playing. It varies a bunch. My present front Shinko 700 still looks new at 4K even after two deals gap trips....

My OEM rear tire lasted about 3K, the rear was smooth for a while before I changed it.

I've got over 15,000km on a Kenda K761 rear at the moment. Its typically my daily commuter, a few fire roads now and then, as well as one or two lengthy road trips over each of the last couple summers. Sample size of 1 so far, but I have another ready to go on prior to our next road trip in August. This pic was taken around the 11,000 km mark:

It doesn't look much different now, although perhaps the flat spot is a bit wider. I'll try and snag a pic this evening for comparison's sake.

Be careful in the rain with the center un-grooved and un-siped. Mine was a little slick on hardpack like that too. If you want even more traction out of a K761, check out the crude grooving job I did to my rear K761...I posted it on youtube. Just search "Kenda K761" on youtube. I have a new K761 to put on when the current one wears out, but that might be a while, and the current one already has around 6K miles (almost 10K km) on it.

Grooving would be a lot easier on a new K761, and I also ordered some different sizes of Ideal Grooving Iron blades now. #3, #6, and #8 round blades would match the original grooves in a 130-17 pretty well. Practice means I can make nicer grooves now too. I'm also going to experiment with some extra grooves, to see if I can add some sand/mud traction without seriously hurting the pavement traction or longevity.

I'm interested in getting a first report on the Anakee 2's. My last Anakee front came off with 13,000 on it, too shot. Rears were going six to eight.

I've not tried Anakee 2's ... as the original Anakee was cheaper ... and supposedly more long lived. The original may not exist any longer, dunno.

13,000 miles on your Anakee front is impressive. I would have liked to have seen that tire up close. Don't be fooled by tread depth.
Just because you have tread depth does not mean the tire is safe. Most front tires CUP badly well before 13,000 miles. Cupping is uneven wear on tread blocks. Equals weird handling (lots of movement and reaction to road irregularities) and poor (dangerous?) performance on wet roads.

Smooth, steady riding does really help front tire life and minimizes cupping. But some riders don't really know what cupping looks like. Just a heads up.

On the DR650 I'd guess you might go 8K to 10K miles on a rear Anakee 2 rear tire. A Tourance will go even further ... but more $$$.

BTW, I posted another youtube vid a few days ago of my 2nd additionally-grooved K761 with about 3K miles on it so far.

http://youtu.be/gk9DdMZmSi8

It runs nice down the road still, wet or dry, and seems to do as well as, or better than, the front Shinko 244 offroad. It seems like this one will still be fine for onroad use up to 6K miles and beyond too.

I got 4500 miles out of a rear TKC-80 too (here in NC no less :drinks: ). The front TKC-80 currently has 5500 miles but, I'm still riding on it and it has a lot of tread left so I'll have to get back to you on it's life.
