Hello I'm a regular poster & I am a Friend of jackpiner57 :friends: I know that Many of us are also on ADV & RDS forums and in the interest of getting the word out I wanted to post this here :clapping:
I had Tom build an add on rack for my factory Suzi Rear rack last spring and I love it!! :s_thumbsup But it's a rack installed on a rack so I asked him if I can drop my '98 DR650 off there so he can make the prototype & the Jig to start a rack for us the DR crowd he's good with that... :drinks: I personally have seen the racks he's building for the DRZ400S :clap So I'm going to be dropping My DR-650 off there next Saturday for him to begin the Prototyping and Jig Building for the DR Racks.. His workmanship is impecable and the prices are too reasonable to pass up.. :deal Check them out at :
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthre ... st17916940
I'll be posting pics and a report after I pick the bike back up!!! :woohoo:

Such a tease...

Ask him if he's into making side racks if you don't mind. I'd appreciate it!

I've been looking for a simple affordable solution to mount some pelican cases as panniers. $300+ is way more than what I want to spend, ya know? Looking for something like the ebay side racks only square so you can actually mount hard cases to them. :s_dunno

I Can ask :s_thumbsup What are you thinking for cases? Hard Or Soft
I have the E-bay side racks on my DR they are well built and I like them.. :s_thumbsup I use them with my Nelson-Rigg Bags
they are not in my personal opinion sturdy enough to support the Pelican cases I have of my own due to the 2 point attachment set up.. . add to that the shape follows the Contour of the side panels and hard case panniers are at best difficult to mount up.
Would you want the bags to remain on the racks or the bags to come off with the racks, leaving the bike looking like no racks were ever on it??

Cool I appreciate it! My idea was to mount hard cases like pelicans. I have some top loading pelicans in mind...

I can't mount anything to my ebay racks because of the rounded shape to them like you said. I have some cheapo throw over soft bags I used once for a trip just to get me by.

I need some hard lockable cases to run for every day use. People around here are opportunity thieves...

I just want some sturdy side racks that are "square" unlike the ebay side racks. I like my ebay racks just because they are kind of a rear crash bar when you aren't running soft bags on them.

It doesn't matter to me how they look without anything mounted to them. I can easily devise a mounting system for my pelican cases, I just need an appropriate side rack system! I want them to be very sturdy! Also need to be around the same price as the ebay racks if that's possible. Thanks! :drinks:

Click here and scroll down to see the old-type PMR (ebay) racks foxfire has for sale. They look like a lighter version of the now-discontinued Moto-Sport racks without the corner flats for case mounting:

If you need me to, I'll snap a picture of my husband's Moto-Sport racks and Pelican set-up so you'll have a better idea.

Yup, those were the simple design I was going for, but I think they have discontinued that version. Foxfire also told me that they may not be suitable for pelicans, he was afraid they would not be strong enough. Pics would be nice to see if you want to post them. :drinks:

Moto-Sport boo-booed when they discontinued these, in my opinion.

Great minds must think alike, that is the same way I planned to mount my side cases, and near the same way I mounted my pelican top case. Thanks for the pics, if they still made those racks I'd already have a set. oh well!

Too right. I've used them for both soft bags and Pelicans. A good rack for sure. :s_thumbsup
