I realize the normal Titanium Powercore spark arrestor will work for the GSXR muffler.
However, Does anybody know first hand if the "FMF Quiet Insert" will work in the 40f0?

If so, which one should be used, and are these things also considered spark arrestors?

I do not know what the quiet insert looks like for the Q4. The SA insert for the Q2 I had was a screen like on the TI power core SA but it also had a curved tube on it extending forward into the silencer. If that is how the quite insert for the Q4 is constructed it will certainly restrict exhaust flow and performance of the GSXR muffler.

WOW! The only info I had on this topic was from advrider. THIS is a good thread! I'll have to pull several all nighters to read through it all, but at least it's all here! :drinks:

Woo hoo!! Just scored a 35FO1. (Didn't want to get into shortening the other one) I'll probably have my 18G1 up for sale once I get it if anyone is interested. The quest goes on for my 40FO, I'll see you guys on ebay! :aggressive:

Edit: My 35FO should be here tomorrow, and my kientech midpipe should be here by the end of the week! More props for kientech!

By the looks of it my tax return won't come back very soon, so the gsxr system will go on before my fcr. (Maybe I can get my bst tuned to accept the new exhaust if it needs it... I'm already running the "free flowing race exhaust" main jet from procycle and I still have the stock exhaust installed...)

Hi there,

I just got my K1 muffler last week with the original midpipe, bought a GPR midpipe here in Germany to fit it to the Stock bolt on piece. Both together were about 200 Dollars..ok if you ask me.

But here comes the question. I cut off the original midpipe and let it weld with the GPR midpipe in a pretty good welding school. They do welding 9to5 so well they know their job.

Today somewhere in this thread i read (from MXROB) that it is not possible to weld a stainless steel midpipe like my GPR one to the original bolt on piece because it is supposed to be titan.

Are you sure about this? Because my welder did not say i word about it being hard to weld or anything. I just went out and grinded at the original cut off piece of the midpipe to see if it has white sparks flying away instead of red/yellow ones...well they were red/yellow.

Also the midpipe is quiet heavy...thought titan would be lighter..so are you really sure it is titan? Will i get any problems with my welding? I seems pretty tough..

Please help!

Regards Fabian

So I did some more research on this..... The 01 GSXR1000 (K1) actually had a stainless or carbon steel mid pipe/servo controlled valve assembly but had the 40F0 TI muffler. The 02 GSXR 1000 had a mid-pipe/valve assembly made of TI..... this is the one I had and you can not weld it to anything but more TI without it cracking apart. The 03/04 GSXR 1000's with the 18G1 TI muffler also used a TI mid-pipe servo valve assembly. Suzuki must have gone for further weight reduction in 2002 on it's premier sport bike. This means you can use a 2001 GSXR1000 K1 mid-pipe flange (or the 600/750 flange) to build your own GSXR system. Learn something every day. :s_yes

Your really saved my day with that research you did! The muffler just fits perfect right now and it would really have been annoying to get the midpipe welded again..

Thank you very much! :clapping:

My 40f0 muffler has a tiny hole on the bottom, near the front of the pipe. It is about the size of a BB. It looks like it was put there from the factory, probably to drain water that may somehow seep into the muffler. Exhaust comes out of this hole pretty hard when the bike is running.

Can somoene else please confirm that their 40f0 also has this hole. Also, should this hole be plugged up in order to further increase flow performance?

Mine has it. I'm not going to plug it.
