Thanks MxRob, you provided the inspiration! :Roost:

FYI, the SA insert that fit* the 35 was listed as a Power -CORE 4 HEX S/A INSERT (FMF part #040670) and it was different that what was shown in the picture on their website. (The photo shows one that looks like what you use on the 40F0's)

more FYI... the spark arrestor I received from ProCycle (a month or so back) for the gsxr muffler arrived without that exterior ring where the "Forest Service approved" text is on many of the SAs I've seen pictured here on drriders. I asked ProCycle about that and they said that their source has changed the design. Looks like the SA on procycle website now is shown with an updated photo, showing the new text-free design. Too bad-- seems like that text might help in conversation with 'the authorities'

The SA thing with FMF has been a mess. We've been trying to get the old style for months but FMF says they have pulled the plug on that part and replaced it with the new all stainless steel version. It's been at least six months since we received the last 'old style SA'.... I just heard today that one of our vendors filled a long standing back order for the old units. Maybe FMF has put them back in production? Maybe it's a one-off production run because we made a stink about it? FMF definitely does not want folks putting their SA in other brand mufflers. :fool:

The text looks more legit, but they push a small stick and see if it stops. At least thats what they did on mine, even though they can see the text and the screen.

My setup is an fmf powerbomb header with Q4. I was never particularly fond of the fart pipe so when it came time to repack I took to searching for an upgrade. The DR gods delivered to me not one but two 40F0 mufflers. Take this as a message of hope that even in 2017 there are still mint 40F0 mufflers sitting in Iowa garages that can be had for $50 and mislabeled in Dutch junkyards which can be had for 60 euro.

Now I'm in the position of needing midpipes and bumping this very old thread to inquire about the current state of their manufacture. It appears the beloved Keintech was retired with its creator. What games are left in town? What's the recommendation for a guy with an fmf header who is looking to mount their new prize as far forward as possible and re-position the stock hanger bracket?

congrats on your 40F0 gifts from above, sounds like you did some deep digging to convince the DR gods that you were worthy!

one solution is to buy the midpipe and muffler adapter that procycle sells: https://procycle.us/bikepages/dr650.html#gsxrmidpipe

thats what I just did for mine. I had an exhaust shop take about 1.5 inches off the muffler end of my procycle midpipe, that moved it forward to be a decent fit. For mine I just drilled a new hole in the stock hanger. Photo below.

That's just my experience. Tons of other advice on this forum from the originators of the 40F0 conversion and folks who have fabricated their own midpipes etc-- search and ye shall find.
