Quick Question to the Knowledge Bank .....Does the Tach lead on the Vapor require it to remain full length ? :pardon:
I know some electronis are sensitive to the resistance of a set length of Wire and I do Not want to cut it if It is :nea: ...
Thanks, Jax

I suspect that the tach lead may be required to remain at the original length. If yours is too long, then I suggest that you re route it so that the excess length is not a problem. In that case you can use it on another bike that requires a long lead.

A couple rough notes from my fading memory banks as a relatively long term Vapor user. This unit was on my DRZ and is now on my DR, has about 4-5 years use on it with no issues.......so far

- I used non switched power from the bike, but you have to be ok with the back light staying on for a few minutes(20 min.??), Im used to it, Ive heard or reseting problems when using switched power. Havent changed the back up battery yet.

- You can wire the tach directly to the coil(white coil wire I think) works great on both the DRZ and DR

- I put the pick up magnet in one of the front rotor holes then JB weld aroung it to hold it in, no issues and it gets beat pretty good. Sensor is attatched to the caliper, just drill a hole and use the self tapper as per instructions, dont worry about the drilling, lotsa meat there its no biggie.

- Yes the bracket is cheezy, I made up one from thin alum. scrap and used the orig. speedo holes to mount.

- You can set you milage from your original speedo easy enough, I have the instructions somewhere, but its right in the programming mode

All I can think of for now, since it was originaly on the DRZ and had a water temp sensor, I never bothered getting the proper one for the DR. Its a great little unit.

Cheers, Todd
