Well, I figured out why my bikes been so obnoxious...think I need a repack? I looked at all the repack writeups and all the Q2's they have in them are different internally than mine. I see there's others out there: http://drriders.com/topic1149.html So, I bought the 19" premier packing (per FMF's recommendation)...this is way too long. The perforated section on mine is only 10.5" long. Do I trim the material...and to where? The end of the perforated section? Internal shot of the can showing the turbine spark arrester:

Yes I think you would have to trim the extra material off. Good ole MX Rob has a great tutorial on repacking the Q. Let us know how it goes. Mine still needs repacked, one of these days, weeks, or months I might get to it.

Yeah, Robs writeup is great...but its for a different Q2. I figure I'll have to trim it, just don't know where to trim it to. My guess is the end of the perforated piece, but this packing wasn't cheap so I don't just want to go hacking at it...

Yep, trim it to the end of the perforated tube allowing just a bit of tube to stick out so it will guide into the SA opening without dragging the packing into the joint. Basically you want all of the holes that are open to exhaust flow to have packing material over them. Make sure the packing is tucked under the flange and up to the internal face of the end cap. You want the packing to fill the whole space inside the canister without packing it down too tight.

OK, cool. Now another question...the kit came with some very fine mesh and the directions don't make any mention of where it goes. Rob, it looks like the material around the "block plate" area in your writeup. Mine doesn't have the this plate...toss it?

Argh...hold on. Upon further inspection it seems my kit is different too. I see now the material I was talking about you used as the first layer. The second layer is different in my kit though. It looks like whats wrapped around the core in my first pic above.

Huh...got it in there. What a PITA! Might have to start looking for a GSXR pipe... Really kinda bothers me that I ended up throwing away almost half of the material. If they would have made it 2" longer I could have cut it all in half and got 2 re-packs out of it...

Man, if I only had a dollar for everytime a woman told me that....... I'd be broke. Glad you got it back in working order. Start checking the Craigslist. I will check mine for you and let you know if something (GSXR) turns up.
