I personally would try and find some rubber weather stripping and give that a whirl. That freakin FMF rubber was a PIA to put on in the first place. I think it took me longer to snap that stupid rubber on the mounting strap than it took to actually mount the muffler on the bike.

Probably too thick. The rubber that came with it was only about innertube thickness. I'm thinking about trying a thin strip of aluminum.

only thing is, the aluminum may scratch up the finish, i dunno. Thats only an issue if you care about that kind of stuff i suppose too.

Not only will the the aluminum scratch it, it will eventually wear a hole in it. And they do make thin sheets of silicone that you bake cookies on. You could probably make 20 hanger gaskets out of of one sheet. Sell the ones you don't use for $1 or $2 and even make a profit.

Man Seacraft you need to get your bike tranny fixed on the quick, I mean your already baking cookies.... All BS aside, the thin silicone idea is actually pretty brilliant. Maybe Wallyworld would have some for a few $'s.

Bought the FMF Repack kit from local CycleGear for $29.
Three of the four "muffler housing retaining screws" were stuck. No luck with heating it, using WD40, some other fluid my roomie gave me. Ended rounding the heads of 1 of the screws. 2 of them wont even budge and keep slipping.
Sent the pipe a friends work place to drill out the screws. Since they have a tapered head, I couldnt use the vice grips either.
Oh well, another mini-project for just "repacking a muffler".. Story of my life.
