Im trying to install just the fork brace. Can you list the steps to be taken? Any potential pitfalls?

Sorry....it took me a day to catch this. I saw you picked up that RSW brace on ADV rider........ Not a ton to really figure out.......the brace never came with any directions, so everything I did was just being cautious to ensure the forks didn't get bound up. (and this was a recommendation from MXRob) The brace can be installed without having to pull the forks --- its a direct bolt on. Here are the steps that I went through.....(whether or not necessary, just being cautious) 1. pull the front wheel & axle, loosen the lower triple clamp bolt. (loosen, not pull) I re-installed the front wheel axle at this point and hand tightened the front axle --- this brings your lower fork tubes into alignment. Before I tightened the brace clamps, I re-loosed the axle pinch bolts again. I just wanted to make sure the forks were aligned.....but also wanted to make sure the brace and axle weren't working against each other if they had slightly different spacing for some reason. 2. position the brace without side clamps in between forks. The brace for me had to go in at an angle, then get pushed into position. Being careful to not scratch your lower fork tubes. Its metal on metal --- it will scratch in a heart beat. 3. Center the brace to absolute perfection on each side, bolt on side clamps. Torque down the side clamps. (But don't over torque......I'm guessing 13-15 ft/lbs..... I did it by feel and by hand with an small allen & used Loc-Tite) 4. re-torque lower fork clamps. Loosen the upper fork clamps. 5. pull fork caps, spacers, and springs. (You're now checking to make sure you don't have any fork bind) 6. Take your hand and push the forks up and down......and check for bind. Mine were smooth at this point. I'm told per MX-Rob that if you do find fork bind at this point.....to rotate each upper fork tube 45 degrees at a time, until you find the right combination for everything to work right. 7. Now is a good time to push the brace into your fender ----- and dremmel away...... you dont EVER want the fender to contact the brace.....it could get pushed down into your front tire --- and you'll be F'd. 8. Put everything back together. Take it easy the first couple test rides and keep an eye on how close the brace comes to your front fender.

So......I posted this in another thread.
After a bunch of thought and careful consideration.....I decided to keep the RSW upper triple (its an awesome piece).....and to sell the RSW fork brace. I just placed an order through Pro-Cycle for the Superbrace.
Why did I do this? Here are my reasons.........
#1 The Superbrace sits on top of the lower fork tubes......making it impossible to ever contact the front tire. #2 I tried and tried, I could not get my neoprene fork boots to clamp on the remaining lower fork tube. Seems to work just fine if your running stock boots. Also, the fact that the superbrace sits on top of the lower tubes....this provides ever more protection. #3 The square design of the RSW forces you to cut away even more of the front fender than necessary......the Superbrace design doesn't pop up as much and is also low in the areas where the front fender could possibly contact the brace.....giving AT LEAST another 2" of clearance for the brace.
Personally --- I think that the RSW could work for some....... My bike is going to be a lowered street tracker......I plan to ride hard, ride mixed terrain including days at the track, wheelie, be stupid, whatever.....and the last thing I want to think about is a brace that could throw me on my ass.
Its just not worth it to me to save $50.

Hmm, I mocked it up (did not completely tighten yet) upside down and with my front SuMo tire, it still has lots of clearence. I am thinking, this way, I dont have to worry about fender coming in contact with the brace. Plus Im only 130Lbs and ride street mostly. Do you think this would be a problem? I am sure I read a couple of articles elsewhere about turning the brace upside down if your running 17" front.

....I would flip it.....especially if you're running the 17" ------ the problem isn't that it will come loose - the problem is with it hitting the fender and getting pushed down.
I'd say, if there is clearance....do it. I also read of several others flipping the brace upside down.
BTW --- RSW does make 2 versions of the same brace...... the other one is a straight across brace for people that don't have 21's.
