Not to be off topic too much, but check http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_XR250R .

There is a link to the xr250 (no R) on the page as well.

Thanks, that was really interesting! I honestly don't remember the XR250R at all during the '80s, so maybe its availability differed by region?

Incidentally, I found another interesting site with detailed histories of almost all brands of bikes, the first incarnation (from 1984) of the DR650 included.

Anyway, I think we have overstayed our welcome here with this discussion.

Great vids. :notworthy:

From that vidoe, Im guessing you are probably 5'10" to 6'ish tall and maybe 160-180 Lbs?

Yeah, even if I have your skills in trail riding,(which I obviously dont) it would be 10X harder for my build/hieght combo. (5'7/130lbs)
That is the reason, I stated in the title, "its not a dirt bike, at least not for me". I had loads of fun in light trails with the DR, but not real dirt scenarios.

I am seriously looking for a KDX locally.. Even better if its plated...

That jacket's not nearly as thick as you think it is.... You're giving me about a 60lb compliment - Thanks! :woohoo:

I suffered the same fate. The big DR is good for light trails & great for dirt roads, but when you get off-road you feel every pound. And yes, it gets really heavy after you pick it up a few times!
As Clint Eastwood has said, " A man (& his bike)has to know his (Their) limitations.

Lift some weights a few times a week. Use your legs, with your back against the seat, while grabbing the near grip and rack/grab handle. I can pick this thing up all day long in the sand down here, with some luggage on it, and I'm not the kind of neckless guy that eats Wheaties with his steroids every morning. I'm a dirt novice too, on road-biased tires, so I spend quite a bit of time picking up my DR.

Don't hafta lift weights with that method, I watched a 125lb woman dead lift a fully loaded Harley that way.
