sheesh such hostility..
seriously tho, my opinion on the location thing.. its like this.. if something is in Aussie land, and im in US.. im going to avoid buying it do to shipping cost.. therefore I wouldnt waste my time and the sellers time by playing PM tag to find out where hes at.. if it was just posted on his location set or whatever.. id know "hey hes in aus no worth shipping" blah blah ect ect..
for example if something is right down the road or in the same city as me.. I would be more enticed to get it because of the convenience of it.
Exactly. This all started when our founder was asked to create area specific want ad sections so you know you are looking at something that might be reasonably shipped. The request came from one of our Australian members which makes perfect sense as shipping costs obviously would kill the deal in most cases and many ad placers had not filled out their location profile. When the baton of DRRiders admin was passed to me this suggestion came with it. We already spend a fair amount of time keeping the one ad section we have clean and displaying relevant ads. Remember this is a free forum. No costs to you, no pay to me or my moderator(s). Guess how appealing adding multiple new want ad sections to take care of sounded?

So we came up with a simple request to help members figure out quickly if they are going to be wasting their time sending PM's about an item 10,000 miles away. That was
requiring your location profile to be filled out if you want to place an ad in this section. If the forum software would allow me to make section specific fields "required" I would just handle it that way instead of the unappealing process of being forced to reminding members to follow some simple section use guidelines. Thanks for your understanding if you would like to use this section.
