Scored a REALLY nice set of blacked out motard wheels in a cash and trade deal. Shipping is en route. I'm so stoked I cant think straight. I've wanted this setup since I rode Deals Gap on 80/20 tires and realized the potential of this bike as a motard. Anyway, we traded wheels and kickstand only. Now I've started thinking.... (a scary proposition all by itself).... I'm running stock gearing. Is that an OK way to go or??? I've got the stock front speedo drive. I'm sure that will be way off now. I actually really like my stock speedo (as opposed to going digital) so what's the way to go on that? Since I'm not too hardcore offroad (but like to poke around the dirt roads and such), I was also thinking that as an alternative to finding another set of stock wheels for dirt work that I might just get a 19" front made up to use as an off-road wheel swap out option for those days I might get dirty. I'd just stick with more ADV styled tires all around. In other words 2 front wheels and one rear. Is this nuts? If not, is there a good middle ground tire for something like this? This'll be my first Motard so I'm sure there's more. Any advice much appreciated! Come on Fed-X!! Here's what's coming...

That looks really nice! What brand are they??
I am getting there on my supermoto setup too. I got my front supermoto wheel and tire today, got it off adv rider. Its a warp 9. Ordered the trailtech vapor and a supermoto front fender this morning. Since its winter and I am not riding, I am going to put my stock front and rear wheels up for sale soon to fund the rear warp 9 wheel and tire! Then all I need before spring is to upgrade the front and rear suspension, and a new chain and front sprocket.

They're cheap, so give it a shot...you'll probably like it. FloridaSteve wrote: I've got the stock front speedo drive. Personally, I think my vapor computer works great. Honestly, it sounds like a waste. If you're gonna have extra wheels might as well have some stockers with 50/50 tires for the dirty days. I love the fact that one day I can be tearing up some twisties, and the next day bolt on the knobies and chase my buddies KTM's through the woods. If you have no interest at all in trail riding, a setup like what I use for the street may be all you need...Avon Distanzias in 19x2.5 (110/80) front, 17x3.5 (130/80) rear. I use these for most of my riding. Good for bombing around town, touring, and the occasional gravel/dirt road. But for anything rough or loose, its no comparisian to the D606's I run for the dirt.

Thanks Foxfire. Good info.
Yeah, I was rethinking the dirt wheel scenario. I might as well get a dedicated set. Not exactly a chore to swap them out. IDoesn't the first generation DR rear wheel match? I've got a local yard that has one and I think the wheels still on it. And I think it's an 18" too so there might be some more dirt oriented tire choices at that size too.

the day after i mounted up my sumo wheels my buddy says, "hey lets to ride 80miles of dirt" so we did. Distanzias work well in dirt, suck in sand.

Yeah that's a HUGE downside of Florida riding. Soft sugary sand is a fact of life here during dry spells. You have to get good at riding in it or wait for rain... or just stay off the trails. I'm thinking Distanzias AND another set of wheels.

STOKED! Wheels came in at lunch today (but I have to work..grrr..). I think I have half my problem solved. The front is a nearly new Dunlop 616 which ha a pretty aggressive tread (it's actually the OE tire on the Buell Ulysses ADV bike) So it looks like I can just swap out the squared off Battleax on the rear and roll from there. Now time to hunt down a spare set of stock ones. Think I'll be leaving early today...

I will have a spare set of stock wheels for sale soon, as soon as I can get time to take them off!
