Creating Your Own Image Hosting Account for Posting Pics
We get a lot of questions on how to post pics on DRRiders. One way is to use the 'attachment' function to upload pics directly from your computer... but the board only has so much capacity for this and the limit has been reached.
The other way is to use an image hosting site (it's free) and upload your pics there first, then link them to the board in your post. How to do this is explained in this section very well in Ryde4ever's "How To Upload Images and Videos" thread found here: topic79.html
But we still get a lot of questions on how to actually create an image hosting account in the first place. Well, good news... IT'S EASY! Believe me, it's no more difficult than what you did to join this board.
First, use Google or Bing to find an image hosting site such as Photobucket, ImageShack, SmugMug. etc.... your choice. They're all about the same when it comes to creating your account.
Once you're on the home page of the hosting site of your choice, you'll see a button saying "Register" or "Create an Account" etc. Click on it.
It will take you through a registration process very similar to what you went through to join DRRiders. Fill out the required information, create a username, pasword, give your email address, the usual.
Most sites will send a comfirmation link to your email address. Sometimes it's instantaneos, sometimes you have to wait up to a day or two. When you receive your confirmation email. click on the link and you should be registered.
Now you have an image hosting account. You can upload all your pics there, similar to using the 'attachment' function here. Simply click the "UPLOAD" button and it will open a "browse" window so you can select the pics you want to upload to your account/albums.
Now when you want to display a picture here, you can select it from your account by clicking on the pic and choosing from the drop down menu under the pic. Each site will have a slightly different system for this, but they're all pretty simple and easy to use.
IMPORTANT: Please resize your pics to a reasonable size, 800 x 800 pixels is just right. Any bigger creates a real PITA because it makes the whole page in the thread really wide so you have to side-scroll to read every post. Be considerate and post smaller pics please!
You can do this basically two ways:
1. BEFORE uploading the pic to the hosting site, do it on your computer first by using an image editing program such as Photoshop or Paint or whatever software came with your camera. This is the best way because a smaller pic will upload faster to the image hosting site, and you will have room for more pics there.
2. AFTER uploading the pic to the image hosting site you can use their 'Edit Image' or 'Resize Image' tool. Choose the "15" Screen" or "800 x 800 Pixel" option for the best size to post here.
