Hey there, not sure if this helps anyone but I just bought a 91 dr650 and have figured out the starting method quite easilym trn on fuel, and ignition, then pull your decompression lever in till it sticks, you may have to push kickstart down once for this but after decompression lever stays in slowly press down on kickstart till lever pops out but no more. Then return kickstart to top position and drive it home. This may take 3or 4 tries but I have had great success this way with out injury to the balls of my foot or getting tossed over the bars lol good luck :bumps:

Thats the way i usually do it too. But iv been experimenting with not usin the decomp at all. I kick it over slowly until kick start stops, then bring it up and give it a good kick. Works the same.

As I am gaining a little bit of history with 1990 DR650S I can vouch for everything that tractor king says EXCEPT the use of the decompression lever. The cable has to be adjusted correctly; it should be tight so that there is little or no free play. Then use the lever as spec'd in the Suzuki manual. Cock the lever, push the kick start slowly til the lever resets then bring the kickstart back up and give it everything. Works everytime unless you are stuck in mud and there are people coming up behind you. Then nothing works.
