It is recommended to carry a magnetic compass as a back-up-unit anyway , so there is no "real" reason to purchase the 60Csx ; the 60Cx is fully sufficient . --- You can "run" it on batteries or hook it up to your vehicle's system with an adapter . --- I use it hooked up to the ATV or on batteries in the boat . --- I understand the 76Cx compares performance-wise . --- Ya I looked for a model 60cx but they are actually more expensive than the newer 60csx model. I am not sure why that is, maybe because there are more of them on hand? I found some for $250 new and I don't think I will find them cheaper but you never know. Thanks for the input.

I own the 60Cx , so that's the only model I can vouch for ; however , any model of the 60 or 76 line should be satisfactory . --- Last year , my son-in-law ditched his E-Trex and purchased a 60Cx . He seems to be happy with it . --- I guess price as well as availability would be the deciding factors . --- Happy hunting .

I've had the 60CS, 60Cx, and the 76CSx, along with the Delorme PN60w-40 SPOT. Delorme is set up more for offroad than the Garmins but the Garmin's are great units. I still use my 60Cx quite often (sold the CS and CSx), the difference between the units are:
x versions have the better GPS Antenna/chipset. Also the internal memory is a bit larger. S versions have an barometer/compass.
Unless you need a barometer/compass go with the 60Cx. Either way, pick up a 2gb microSD card for less than $10 and you can update the maps to the 2011/12 maps.
Difference between the 60 and 76 are the shape of the unit, but same internals. 76 will float on water.
Garmin is better for street use (does good offroad too), Delorme road navigation is not that appealing.. I bust out my Android phone for the street (Google Maps FTW!)

Thanks for the replies. One more question, I had good luck with Lowrance hand held GPS units in the past, does anyone use a Lowrance Sierra or a Endura and if so how is it?
