Hi everyone
I've just registered for drriders. I've been on the hunt for a while for a fork brace for my 1992 DR650 RSE and spotted this thread.
I've been finding the steering quite vague on my bike - especially loaded up with luggage on on the dirt. I'm pretty sure the steering head and wheel bearings are OK so I'm guessing a brace would make a difference. I wasn't sure until now what would fit my bike, as it's a pre-1996 and has a low mudguard but the brace shaun'o' bought sounds ideal.
shaun'o'- did the brace do the trick for your bike? what did you ask for from discovolantemoto? I had a look at their site and can't see anything listed for DR650...
Thanks

thanks for the reply shaun'o'. the dimensions in the diagram look promising but it does appear to be specific to the 94/95 model. I'll give Mr Davies a call and see if he can do a brace to suit my 1992 bike.

I think Kientech sells a old school type brace. Very cool if you like the 60-70's look.

I just started reading this post today. You say your running 32 and 34 psi.? That seems a little high to me? I run in the mid twenties on my street tires and haven't any handling issues.

Hate to say it.....I decided after some careful consideration to not run the RSW fork brace. No doubt it was a well made piece, fit well, and was very solid...... The reasons why I decided to sell it.
#1 The brace clamps onto the fork legs......with no directions, you have no idea how much to cut out of your fender. If you fully compress your forks there is the possibility that the brace could get slammed down into your wheel at speed. The Superbrace sits on top of the dust seals making it impossible for the brace to get jammed into the wheel.
#2 The RSW brace clamps to the fork tubes, then bumps up to clear the wheel with a square design. The Superbrace is arch'ed --- so it will actually go up into the fender before it contacts the sides of the fenders. The Superbrace also has less of an arch, giving even more clearance with the fender.
#3 The Superbrace has a lip built in to clamp your boots or neoprene protectors. The amount of fork tube left with the RSW brace wasn't enough to clamp down a neoprene protector.
#4 Because the Superbrace sits on top of the seals ---- this also acts as another form of protection to keep dirt out of your forks.
Believe me.....I bought the RSW ----- and after installing it, and thinking about it.....I pulled it off. Sure, I think it will work....and it looks great. But why worry about the possibility of getting thrown on your ass. I'm going to install the Superbrace and never worry about the stuff listed above again.
