Lots of rain and a losse plug cap won't help how it runs. That's for sure.

Glad to hear it's okay today.

All I can suggest from here is; Ride, smile, repeat!

Yep, bike seems fine now! I've ridden it several times today and in the rain once, there were no issues, so I'm gonna call it fixed. I haven't sen any oil spots under the bike yet, but those could take a few rides to show up.

I did find that a noise I began hearing several weeks ago has seemed to subside. I couldn't describe the noise well, but to me it was a slap, or chatter, but not all the time, only when I got on the engine hard. It would especially show up if I tried to open the throttle wide from a slow cruise. I can't adjust the cam chain tensioner because it's automatic, so I'm going to assume it's either a bit tighter or looser now than it was before and that I was hearing cam chain slap, or odd valve noise because of cam chain slap. Now, when I get on the gas hard, the engine has a smoother sound and feel, more like a sewing machine, and less like a cranky diesel.

I hate to revive a dead thread, but I may have discovered the root of the problem I was having with rain causing my bike to run poorly. Way back, I replaced the cam chain tensioner gasket with one I made out of a rubber/cork material I purchased from the auto parts store. I changed the gasket again today because I noticed an oil weep like I experienced nearly half a year ago around the cam chain tensioner. When I went to remove the cam chain tensioner, the bolts were only finger tight! I don't know how it happened, but when I put the tensioner back on the first time, I must not have torqued the bolts down. I attribute that mistake to not having removed the header and having to work in such a tight spot. The good news; the gasket I made was intact and looked great, so I have lots more faith in the auto parts store gasket material. I replaced the gasket with an OEM one and put LocTite on the bolts. I hope that clears up my rain issue!

Rubber/cork gasket material is not made for any type of real tension service.. normally for tin covers and such. I'm sure you tightened the tensioner but the cork material compressed down. Maybe after the initial compression down the gasket will remain stable. If not the next thing thing that will happen is it will split.
