Hi all,

My name is Stuart and I'm an Aussie from Melbourne. I have just bought a 1992 DR 650 RSE in Kampala, Uganda and I intend to ride it to Capetown, and then potentially onto London if things go well!

It's been a torrid start. The bike has 69K on the clock, so after buying I took it into a local dealership for a 'small service' and a checkup (there was a slight tick from the cam-chainm was a little slow to start and sometimes cut out at low revs). But when I returned the following day they had completely stripped the engine, claiming the cam chain, piston rings and clutch was shot! I allowed them to put in new piston rings and clutch plates as (apparently japanese) parts could be found. But I didn't trust the 'new' timing chain they proposed to create from two smaller chinese ones!

I'm about to head south and I'm still in the market for some good parts to be couriered in, so if you help with this please let me know. Otherwise, keen to hear from anyone about the proposed trip, thoughts on the above mechanicals, or just general encouragement. If our paths may cross, please let me know!

Cheers
Stu

Welcome to DRRiders.com Stu! :howdy: Sorry about your predicament with your machine. Yeah, I'd be worried about a patched together cam chain myself. BikeBandit does ship internationally! :good:
