I run a 140/80 Dunlop D607.
It fits, but the profile of the tyre is changed as the stock rim is too narrow.
As you can see in the photo, only half the tyre is being used, the front is scuffed to the edge.
Next tyre is going to be the correct size for the rim!

Thanks .I didn't even think about the rim being to narrow.

Although not available in all tires, the 130 (5.10) is an acceptable fit on the stock rim and what I've been running since the original tire wore out.

In your 60,000+ miles of DR experience, what have you settled on as a tire? What have you found to be the longest lasting for 60-40 true dual sport type riding?

I wanted to fit a 140 out back and even ordered the tire. That size is rather "boarder line" for our rear wheel and when I received the tire it was pretty apparent that it had too much girth for the rim so I exchanged it for a 130 which is the max size I will use on the DR hoops. I did a lot of research on running a 140 on the stock rim before I order it and the consensus was generally "don't to it" with a few had fitted them to their bike. Once I saw the actual tire I was like: :s_no

The 130 is the way to go IMO

I started using the 244 Shinko 5.10 years ago, liked it and stayed with it. It gets 'good enough' mileage but it's been so long since I checked it, I can't tell you how many miles I get. At the price, I'm happy with it but there's no mud and very little deep sand in my life. I like the Pirelli Scorpion Rally on the front because it was recommended to me by my two gurus who live on opposite sides of the planet (and don't know each other). It isn't a 'cheap' tire but it's what's up front that counts on the DR so I'm ok with the price. It gets reasonable mileage and I also use it on the WR.

That Heidy will fit but to me it felt like a tire that's too big -- it made my ride feel fat, luggy and not so responsive. It's a good tire for a big GS or KTM but IMHO it's not a great fit on the DR.

I went from a Mitas E07 130 to the Heidy 140 and wow what a difference. I much preferred the Mitas E07, and it was better offroad.

The Heidy might give you some more miles... say 9,000. But the E07 is good for 7,000 miles... depending on all sorts of factors of course, but that's roughly the general consensus.

Aside from quicker turn-in & cornering, the other benefit to staying with stock 120 width is less rotational weight & rolling mass.
