Hello all - I hail from Hagerstown, MD.
I'm about to start my second round with motorcycling. I rode other people's mini-bikes and MX bikes as a kid until I was able to buy a clapped out Benelli for $20 around 1975 (not much to go around back then). It lasted a summer... Got my first "real" motorcycle in 1979 - a used Honda CB350. Fell in love...(with the bike). Got a used Yamaha RD400 for a case of beer and added it to my stable shortly thereafter. I ran the Honda until it burned a valve and sold the Yamaha. No more bikes until 1994 when bought my first "new" bike...drumroll please...a Suzuki DR650!!!! After having our first child, the payment was more than we could afford ($157 per mo)
and the bike was sold
Now the kids are in college and things are changing - time for another DR!! My goal this time is to have fun and teach myself to do wheelies at some point. May as well break some bones while I still can. I'm a tinkerer by nature and have built a 1972 Chevy Stepside with a 454HO motor, ACI trans, all restored and I also have turbo'd a 2013 Scion TC - as well as a stable of trucks and Jeeps. Time to go back to two wheels.
Been lurking for a couple of weeks and finally joined up. I expect to have a new DR before April.
Anyone interested in a 1972 Stepside or Scion TC? Both are freaky fast and will put a smile on your face.
