A cylinder head removal does seem the best place to start.

Out of curiosity just what model DR?

Waiting for the carnage report... :lurk: Reports like this gives new hope to those that think they have the corner on the market for bad luck. (it's nice to say "you poor bast*rd" instead of always hearing it) :sorry:

Is the old plug damaged?
Is the new plug that is damaged the correct one for the bike?

Sorry guys! I have not dug into it yet. Work ramped up a little bit and I'm trying to seal the deal on another *working* 95 DR so I haven't had much time. I certainly want to post back because there are only a few things worse than seeing threads without conclusions.

Both plugs are damaged. I believe only the center most plugs get the damage. It's harder to tell on the NGK because of the thicker tang, but the cheap Walmart one is very obvious

Silly question1: Have you measured the thread reach of both plugs? Are they the same? I hope so. Maybe a plug with the wrong (long) reach...?

Silly question2: Have you done a compression check? My thought here is that if you have compression your valves are intact and not bouncing around inside the cylinder. I would think that your valves would take a hit before the plug but someone who knows the anatomy of the DR cylinder could chime in to verify.

Some spark plugs have washers. Pretty sure you have the wrong size.
