Tech23 Is that because it's easier to apply a wrench to the collar while the shock is connected at both ends? Being ignorant on this subject I didn't do loosen mine, but had no trouble removing it. What does loosening the lock ring do other than allow one to adjust or remove the spring? Thanks.

Usually it is easier to loosen the lock ring with the shock mounted on both ends...particularly if there is any dirt or grit in the threads, which of course should be cleaned up and removed first, along with a few drops of oil. Spinning the spring must be done with the rear wheel off the ground (no weight on the spring). In the third pic, it looked like he had front and rear springs to install with SM conversion. Just makes life easier...at least for me it does. Your shock may have been clean and free of grit in the threads, glad it went smooth for you...beats wrestling a shock on the bench or in the vise with a stuck lock ring and preload adjuster ring. Some don't clean their bikes before working on them. I learned this from watching the techniques used by Pro MX Techs in the pits at the Nationals. Those guys don't screw around. They attack the bike, something to see for sure. Tech23

Tech23 Thanks Tech23. I thought as much. Yes, you can learn a lot by watching the guys that wrench for a living. I am fortunate enough be friends with and trail ride with Russel Bobbitt's dad Bo, who usually helps out the KTM gang at National Enduros. My WR450 flooded one day and he just turned off the gas and laid it on its side for about 30 seconds, then picked it up and it fired right up. Said the carb drained quicker on its side. Made since, but I wouldn't have thought to do it.

Where's the finished pics? Did you run into a snag somewhere? Tied up for parts? Short on time? Some people here want to see that thing all done up.

Hey, sorry to leave you guys hanging! Just got back from vacation, the bike is still on the jack and i'm hoping to get it wrapped up this week... been very short on time which is killing me because i really want to have it all wrapped up to so i can enjoy the rest of the riding season already! I was also waiting for the new cush drive rubbers that i forgot i wanted to do (made sense) and im thinking of just grabbing a new chain and sprocket while im at it (while the rear wheel is off) also waiting on a new front caliper relocation bracket as i damaged mine by drilling it to close to the edge for the vapor sensor .... Hang tight !

Looks awesome!
One thing... those fork seal savers... shouldn't they be mounted so they protect the part that actually slides into the fork?
