Hi all, I'm planning on a solo run from Oregon over the Spanksgiving holiday. Truck down to Tonopah on Wednesday the 23rd. Ride 90 percent off road for three days on the DR790 then truck back on Sunday.
I'm parking the truck in Tonopah, riding to Lone Pine the first day, Beatty the second, and back to Tonopah the third. About 700, maybe 800 miles in three days depending on snow levels. Early, cold starts and late, cold ends. Happy to meet up with anyone along the way or at the road's end.

I'll be out of town (Ridgecrest) next week for Thanksgiving.

I was just off the 190 before death valley in the Panamint dunes area. It was in the high 20's last week in the morning in Ridgecrest.

Some jet aircraft were practicing (not the Blue Angles) with smoke trails in pairs in the Panamint Valley, pretty cool.

Beautiful area.

Starting the drive tomorrow and testing the Spot Messenger. Looks like temperature/snow level will be my biggest problem. Playing it by ear....

Well that was a brutal drive, had to 4wd on Hwy 89 for 40 miles but 13 hours later I'm here in Tonopah. Sooooo cold though, sheesh. I'll have to do some changes just to get out of Tonopah. All good though, just had a killer sampler here:

The Mizpah Hotel is pretty cool too.

Good to here from you Plonker, here's a beer for you.
GT4, next time.
PC, if you were here I'd drag you along with me.

My plan was to leave here before light of day. Not happening! It's supposed to be 19 degrees at 6 am. I might just keep the bike in the truck and figure out a lower elevation to park. I'm at 6080 ft. right now. Never surrender!

Looks like I had a big day after all. Here's how it went.
I decided to go for my original plan, Tonopah to Lone Pine through DV.
I waited until 8:15 to unload the bike because now it was above 20 degrees! Time to park the truck and suit up.
This pic was after the bike had been idling for ten minutes so I think we were still in the high 20's. Oh yeah, the bike wouldn't start without ether btw. Glad I brought that along. At this point I was thinking that this might STILL be a bad idea.
