Hi together,

I finally had managed to get a full 4 weeks off of work this year and the trip was all planned and set up...but it actually only took 2 days to get back home. Here`s the reason.

Polish driver decided to first stop on a stop sign just so he can continue driving inside the crossroad after a few moments. Too late for me to stop. Was outside the city so I was going around 50mph..of course I hit the breaks but couldn`t stop anymore. Hit the car with estimated 35 or a bit more mph.

The newly redone WP Extreme forks broke right off on the fork clamps. Header pipe is toast, Cooler maybe, few other minor parts. The frame looks to be fine.

Well I guess as I planned to do a bike build anyways it`s gonna be a rebuild and a build..

At least you're around to talk about it. Many do not get that option.

That sucks on so many levels. :sorry:

On the bright side, look how easy that ride report was to write! :2_thumbsup:

Damn lucky. Sucks that your trip was ruined, but as mentioned, good to see pics of it from your viewpoint.

Oh, and that'll buff right out!

Absolutely right. I was very lucky nothing more happend.

The DR frame is also fine and new forks are not that big of a deal...

I had already ordered all the suspension parts from Cogent before my trip for my other DR rebuild so I won`t be DRless for long ;)

And the trip was only shortened by a few days not completely ruined. Happened on a Tuesday evening and on the following Saturday I started again with my 1991 VW Bus/Transporter. And it actually was a very nice experience also :2_thumbsup:

Hi fabian_s,

Sorry about your awful luck.

Looking at the side of the car, it looks like the "bark busters" may have saved you from serious hand injury. :s_smile

Since you seem to be in good spirits maybe it is safe to ask, where did you end up when everything stopped moving?

I know there may have been no to avoid this since I've come close a few times myself.....

But I'll toss another ad in for the BikeVis lights I put on my bike now - and just dumb luck or they work - haven't had anyone pull out in front of me since.

I install the bullets. http://www.bikevis.com/motorcycle-running-lights

Great that you made the trip still!

Thank you for the idea with the HighViz lights Trophyhunter. I am considering actually putting some on the bike when the rebuild is done. You can never know now but might just have spared me all this..

You mean where I landed after the throw off?

Well the bike ended up as you see in the pictures. Strong DR didnt even fall over

I got flipped right over the car and landed almost on my feet. More on my left side. Thanks to my very high DR650 and thanks to the fact that the Audi A6 was not one of the highest cars I got flipped OVER the car. Smaller street bike or higher SUV like car and I guess I would have been thrown right in the car. Would this have happened I might just not be here now answering your questions...

Wow! :OMG: So glad you are walking and talking about this. :good: Bad way to start a holiday but you got a reset.... many folks in that situation would not be so fortunate. Thanks for the sobering reminder of how easy it is to taken out by a driver with their mind wandering elsewhere.

"You mean where I landed after the throw off?"

Yes, anytime I'm involved in an accident it seems like a whole lot of motion followed by a "How did I get here?".

It is just awesome that you weren't hurt.
