So, I don't own a DR650 yet. But I will. It's like this. I have the cash and I have the time. And there are bikes out there to be purchased. So what's the delay? Obviously, it's just a matter of "pulling the trigger".

I do alot of touring. Primarily on my KTM SuperDuke or 1993 Honda CBR900RR. But I have that urge to ADV tour. I had a KTM 950 Adventure which was awesome. But I had to sell it to grow our motocycle business in San Francisco. So, I toured on the SuperDuke. Did roughly 3100 miles con SF to Alberta Canada and more. Then in June of this year I did another 2900 miles of Route 66 and more.

I sold the Superduke last month. I was considering the Honda AT but I have no desire for payments. Looked at the "three " options and decided to consider the DR650.

So the adventure begins. I plan to ride to Nova Scotia or Alaska in 2017. I need to prep the bike NOW! .

I look forward to documenting my story. More to follow. ...

Welcome!
What sort of motorcycle business do you have in San Fran?

We've got a few DR650 guys here from the City or surrounding areas.

This forum is all about mods and prep ... so no shortage of experience and info there.

The DR can be a surprisingly good tour bike ... IF SET UP RIGHT. A few here have done serious miles.
Suspension, seat, bars, lowered pegs, proper set up on drive line, all seem to help for serious LD riding.

Good luck! :drinks:

Well, I have now looked/considered at a total of 5 different bikes.

The first was a very clean and highly modified (or prepped) 2003 DR650. About 6k miles. Comes with a set of SM wheels. Mikuni Pumper, oversized tank...suspension and more. $5.5k

Then a 2015 "all original" low mileage bike. No crashes. 1500 miles. $5.6k

Also another 2012 model with 1400 miles. Aftermarket seat. $5.3k

A 2002 with 12k miles. Rejetted, slightly roughed up. $3.4k

Finally, a 2006 DR650 with 6k miles. Very clean. All original. $4k

Lots of bikes available in Northern California. And many more in Southern California. Hoping to be an owner within the next 10 days. Until then... any comments or advice is willing appreciated.

I think I responded to a different post of yours, perhaps one talking about the bikes you were looking at - hit me up if and when you get one - happy to help in any way, totally down to ride if timing permits.

cheers. :drinks:
