Hey guys, I'm just wondering what gear ratio you all run on your converted 650s and why. I know there's no right ratio and there's trade offs, but I'm just wondering what everyone's running. I'm going to be ordering a conversion kit and need to decide on a ratio.

How about telling us how and where you ride?

I ride street only lately, without any freeways (hate that). Lots of canyon carving. For this, 14-42 works really good.

This summer I'm going to be commuting with my bike a lot, i have about an hour ride to work that's pure highway. I don't typically go over 80 so I want a bit lower than the stock ratio. I would like a slightly better low end than the stock ratio.

I don't know what you mean by conversion kit. Do you just mean new sprockets?

I'm getting a conversion kit to convert my DR into a moto, it comes with a rear sprocket of choice.

I like 14/43 it is a good comprimise for me. just barely low enough for dirt and tall enough for cruising at 70.
It also leaves the axle in the stock location.

16/41 on my supermoto. 4650rpm @ 72mph(Vapor speedo). 150/60 rear tire. Rpm increased by about 750 on interstate compared to factory120/90(16/42)72mph@4250rpm. Changed rear to 41 to get it down to 4650rpm.
She's happy there. I'm getting around 45mpg on interstate with current setup.
