Event Info

Camp and ride weekend at Bald Eagle State Forest. Friday June 24th -Sunday June 26th I believe it is the only state park in PA with dual sport only trail system.

Please note: It is possible that we might see a Sasquatch or experience an alien abduction situation. During such an event you may be inappropriately touched by aliens. No promises though.

Family friendly event for some riding, camping and fishing. Checking to see if there is a rifle range for some plinking too. Camp and ride, or just show up to ride. Will bring vehicle support. Spouses and kids optional if you just want to get out for a break on your own.

In a couple weeks I will organize a conference call-in number for those going so we can hash out any details like food and gear and see if anyone needs anything. If you do not have camping gear but want to camp, let me know. I have extra tents you can use. You must promise not to fart in them. Much.

Schedule:

Friday, June 24th:

Arrive when you can and setup camp. Officially by park rules that's 3:00 PM on.
6:00-7:00 PM ish - start cookout. Yummy.

Saturday, June 25th:

7:00 AM Revile.
8:00-9:00 AM Breakfast
10:00 AM We Ride!
Lunch: on the trail. Bring Clff Bars.
Return time - Unknown - depends how lost we get.
6:00-7:00 PM ish - cookout 2
Camp Fire Marshmallows and S'mores.

Sunday, June 26th:

8:00-9:00 AM Breakfast
Ride some more, fish, plink, whatever.
1:00 PM ish Lunch
Break Camp - Get some group photos.
Have to be out by 3:00 PM - state park rules.

Here is info on the forest:

Here you can grab a map of the trail system:

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/st ... /index.htm

I can also order a CD that has a 100 mile loop in gpx and roll chart form.

I am also getting in touch with a guy who lives local and has all the trails mapped out on his GPS. Hoping to get a copy of the files soon.

Poe Valley State Park Campground:

Camping Reservation System: (view sites online).

Nuke77 lives up that way has scouted locations. Poe Valley goes direct to trails.

Post back if interested and I will add you to the list. Let me know if you are staying or just day riding wth us.

I will bring my Shinko 804/805s and Adventure Vest.

Serious. :2_thumbsup:

This sounds like a lot of fun man, I'm interested. Any weekend from June on would be fine for me. Do you have any idea how difficult the trails are? I have 90/10 street/dirt tires on my bike, so I'll probably pass on the more technical stuff. Otherwise, sounds like a great time. I live pretty close, so I could scout it out ahead of time if that'd be helpful. Keep me posted!

Howdy Nuke,

From the info I have the trails range in difficulty from beginner on up. We'll tackle whatever we can and go from there. I think it's almost all two track. I've never been there myself so that's part of the adventure, getting lost, getting stuck, dirt napping. Get some good stories out of it.

I'll add your name at the top post.

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks man, sounds good. I may take a ride out there in the next couple of weeks to see what I can see.

I should be good.

However, on the 4th and 12th I am already booked.

Do we have details on the date range...?

Cool. Working the dates out now. Which month are you busy the 4th and 12th?

Steve

Ok that sounds good. If you get a chance to do it scout the camping area if you can and maybe write down some spot numbers. You can view photos of spots on the DCNR website but until you've been to a place before you never know what the good spots are.

I'll post a link to the camp site directory. According to the info page they have 40 spots for motorized camping with fire rings, etc.

Russell Letterman Camoground Map:

Camping Resevation System: (view sites online). From scanning this it looks like the sites labeled Rustic Non Electric allow vehicles and are open quite a bit on the reservation system.

I actually took a ride through there on some of the fire roads this afternoon. I didn't see your post until just now, but that's okay because it gives me an excuse to go back!

Seems like a nice place. The dual sport trails are closed until Memorial Day, but even so, there are some nice mountain roads and great views. Once we get a little closer and have some idea of how many people are going, I'll check out the campsites and find the nearest gas station.

Here are a couple pictures I snapped:

Awesome man. That looks beautiful. :2_thumbsup:

I'm going to call a date on this if there are no objections. Sooner we post a date I think the more people can plan/know if they can make it.

Friday June 24h - Sunday June 26th.

That should give people plenty of time to prepare. Weekend of the 18/19 is Father's Day so that's out. N3YMY can't do weekend of 4th or 12th.

I checked the reservation system and pretty much everything is open. The dedicated tent spots are all walk in, no vehicles. Rustic non-electric allows vehicles, has fire rings, etc. Still can walk to the bathrooms, etc.
