I have been looking at some new riding gloves lately and wonder whet the masses say about likes dis-likes. I can get a pair locally that are all leather with the built in carbon fiber knuckle covers and plastic built onto the fingers. They are real nice with a price tag of $50. THey have another pair that are all leather with the thick padding across the knuckles adn some down the fingers that are $40. Im basically looking for the some street protection, I would like to hear some preferences.

I picked up a set of mechanix impact gloves (earlier version of the gloves in the link below) at Lowes for $30. Lots of padding on the palms, decent knuckle protection (though nothing like the carbon fiber sliders you are talking about), and very breathable for the hot months. The stitching seam is at the very tip of the fingers which can be annoying sometimes, but for the most part, I don't even notice it. http://www.mechanix.com/safety/the-safety-m-pact-orhd

You can get these gloves at your local Walmart in the Auto or Tools section for about 30 dollars. These gloves are the ones I use and they are really flexible and comfortable.

Walmart also sells some MX motorcycle gloves that don't look to bad, and have held up okay so far. The mechanix impact gloves look pretty good also, I might try them next time.

Those mechanix gloves look good. I'll have to check those out. Thanks

http://www.mechanix.com/m-pact-2-covert-gloveI wear these for riding gloves. They fit me well, and have some padding in the palms and across the knuckles/fingers. They aren't motorcycle gloves but they serve my purpose well. Breathable enough in the summer. I found them on amazon for around $30 shipped I think. Since I'm thinking about it, (and not to get off track from the original post) it's getting colder out. What are some nice thin winter/windproof/waterproof gloves? I've got a thick pair of gloves that were fine for the cruiser, but these 7/8's grips make the gloves bunch up and are highly uncomfortable to wear on the dr. Anyone know if they make a thin but warm windproof glove for the colder months?

I have always liked Joe Rocket GPX gloves (about $90 US) for track and fun regular riding. They are full length gauntlet style goves, with knuckle protection, great crash and road rash protection (fully tested by me) and look cool too. If its summer and I'm not wearing full gear, i have some shorter leather riding gloves, I picked up at the local Harley dealer for low key basic black gloves that are comfy, not huge, and will still protect your hands. They are warm in the cooler weather too. There is really no one good answer, as there are so many different riding scenarios, weather, style preference and other factors. I have a couple different pairs ready to go and always on the lookout for something I havent seen before. But no matter what, I would never ride without gloves, its just my preference, but in my experiences over the years, the hands are the first thing to either get hit, or hit the ground, and you dont want your hands rashed up. Even if I just run to the store in the summer and dont wear a helmet (yeah yeah, flame on if you must), I still always grab gloves. I have yet to get a pair of moto cross gloves, but I am always looking and open to it as well.

i've been wearing my Thor MX gloves for the summer, work great and are warm enough on those mildly "chilly" kalifornia mornings. but now that it's actually getting COLD i'm switching to my big thick SSR gloves which are nice & warm with good protection.
i just hate that i can't feel the controls well with the thick gloves, hard to clutch adequately without being able to feel.

I agree the mechanics gloves are comfy and breath good, but they wouldn't last a half second sliding on asphalt. Same with mx gloves. Get some street gloves if you really want protection.

I just got the 2012 Thor catalog and after reading some posts here, I gave in and ordered 2 pair of Thors. I got the Insulator models for the cold weather we have now, and a pair of the Spectrums for next season when it's warmer. Just like any gear, there's no one pill for anything, I like to have a stable of things to adjust and switch to.
