A motorcycle cop with mad skills? Does this surprise you? It's not easy to make the cut to the highway patrol, these cops are some of the most highly trained road riders you will ever meet. And its been that way for a long time. The best of the best make it to the drill teams....sort of like the Blue Angels of motorcycle riders. I have seen the Indianapolis Police Departments Drill Team perform at the Harley Davidson York, PA. Assembly Plant Open House festivities, and it really is impressive to see. Those of you that have never ridden a Harley Davidson (yet like to to talk from zero experience) would be very surprised at how well balanced the bikes are...especially at low speed maneuvers. The bikes feel like a gyroscope and make it very easy to keep your feet on the pegs at very low speeds. Very easy to come to a complete stop and then then moments later put your foot down.

Not all motorcycle cops have mad skills. I was just riding around town yesterday and I was following a motorcycle cop. He almost fell over twice at a stop light, then proceeded to not turn off his signal light for a couple km's, then to top it all off he was halfway through turning the wrong way down a one way street before he barely made the turn to get going the right way again and almost hit a parked car. I'm not so sure about all motorcycle cops. It did make me laugh though.

What part of the world do you live in? Maybe in parts of the world the requirements are not so stringent. Most of the motorcycle highway patrol I have seen out here have impeccable riding skills. I really have to give credit to the Arizona highway patrol for just keeping it on two wheels out there in the triple digit summer heat, especially when they wear those bullet proof vests in the noon day sun. The drill team riders are even better although get offs do happen...practice makes perfect.

The first time I rode a Harley was in 2000, rented one for a day in Florida while on vacation, it was a brand new 2000 Dyna WideGlide, the first thing I noticed was how well it was balanced, the second was how much the bike shook at a stop light, LOL

The motor cops in the San Diego area had the Kawasaki's and moved to BMW. The Sheriff's motors have Harley's. I've watched the "Motor Academy" drills they put 'em through.....not easy.

My '05 Wideglide was very manueverable....especially since it had the larger front wheel....and it was after they used rubber mounts on the Dyna series so I didn't get the shakes as bad.

TrophyHunter you have good taste...FXDWG.

One of the coolest maneuver I saw the Indianapolis Drill Team perform was an exercise called the keyhole. They had I believe it was 5 riders on Electra Glides riding nose to tail inside that 18 foot circle. One rider would enter after the other then adjust his speed to the rider in front. Each new rider entering the circle was hard on the gas and immediately adjusted his speed to the pace inside the circle. Once all 5 riders were inside the circle the distance between the bikes never changed....Awesome.
