For all the poor souls in the Rest of The World, who haven't had the pleasure of vegemite on toast for breakfast.
Hugh Jackman, explaining how it is done.

P.S. Must be vegemite - do not fall for that promite or marmite Pommy stuff.
P.P.S. Before the American cousins get too critical - vegemite now American owned - it's your patriotic duty to cultivate a taste for it.

At least Jimmy was a good sport about it. I was in Darwin for a couple of months back in the 70s but don't recall seeing Vegemite; probably before it's time. In fact I never heard of it until Men at Work became popular. Thanks for the laugh.

Only a poof like Hugh would dick around with toast.

Get a spoon, open the jar, dig in!

Fair go Bob, at least he got at least three people to admit it's not so bad.

Nah. You musta missed it, it's been around since 1923. When I was a school kid in the early 60s, vegemite and dripping sandwiches were a bit of a delicacy among the poorer kids.
Of course, anything packaged in glass tended not to get taken to Darwin - the extra weight added to the freight costs. When I was last there (in the 1980s, where the heck has life gone?) you couldn't buy interstate beer in bottles, only cans.

Tried the new Cadbury vegemite chocolate the other day. I am of the opinion that if they used dark chocolate instead of the dairy milk stuff, they'd be onto something.

Oh, we’ve got some bloody good drinkers
In the Northern Territory
From Darwin down to Alice Springs
They’re always on a spree
From out on the Barkly Tablelands
And across to the VRD
We've got some bloody good drinkers
In the Northern Territory

Oh the drinkers of the Territory
Are black and brown and white
But no matter what your colour is
You get into it every night
So grab yourself a stubby
And sing along with me
About those bloody good drinkers
In the Northern Territory.

Ted Egan - Drinkers of the Territory
